March 1, 2023

Mary Bugbee, PESP researcher, was featured in an episode of the Fierce Healthcare podcast called Podnosis. Mary spoke on the striking findings from the new PESP report “Private Equity Descends on Rural Healthcare.” In a joint research effort,  healthcare researchers Mary Bugebee, Mchael Finne, and Eileen OGrady found that at least 130 rural hospitals are currently owned by private equity firms.

The episode, “What private equity means for rural healthcare, and how Margaret-Mary Wilson’s career journey impacts patient care,” examined the ways private equity invests in rural healthcare hospitals and centers. Additionally, host Anastassia Gliadkovskaya spoke with Mary about the consequences seen as a result of private equity ownership of rural hospitals. Gliadkovskaya had also previously penned an in-depth exclusive story for Fierce Healthcare on the report titled “Private equity owns at least 130 rural hospitals, and other revelations in a sweeping new report on PE in rural healthcare.”
