PESP senior research and campaign coordinator Azani Creeks provided background on the PE industry for a story on childcare investments:
Typically, there are several minority investors in a venture capital round of funding, while private equity firms tend to take a majority stake in acquisitions, said Azani Creeks, senior research and campaign coordinator for the nonprofit watchdog group Private Equity Stakeholder Project. PESP’s recent report on private equity links to 2024 bankruptcies garnered media attention in several outlets:
According to a report from the nonprofit watchdog Private Equity Stakeholder Project (PESP), 56% of large corporate bankruptcies in all industries had a history of private equity ownership. “Large,” in this context, refers to entities with liabilities exceeding $500 million. Of the eight such filings in healthcare last year, seven companies had a history of private equity ownership.
